Review: This is a simple and easy-going modern-day fairy tale about the humorous fallout of a happy go lucky and hopeless romantic doctor, who is completely lacking certain reservations or disciplined formalities, meets a handsome young Rajput prince, who comes from an orthodox and rigid royal family. Their worlds, so drastically different, obviously clash, but then of course they fall in love.
It’s predictable, yes, but it’s fun. There’s not a lot, or really any, deep layers to this movie, it’s kind of a typical, shallow romance, between two conventionally pretty people who fall in love “despite the odds,” but it still has its charm and is good for a laugh and light-movie watching, as is any romantic comedy.
The pure grandeur of the sets are, by far, one of the best parts of movie, and it's worth watching just to be able to experience the scenery. Everything is just absolutely gorgeous and opulent in all of the best ways, depicting what most of us imagine the royal experience is like. The dialogue is a highlight as well, fresh and expertly delivered, and full of witty one-liners, that surprisingly don't feel overdone or like they're trying to hard, and I actually laughed out loud several times.
This will likely feel familiar to American audiences, probably due to Disney’s influence over the production, and it's just an enjoyable, feel-good, film.
